As pod2g said on twitter re possible iOS 5 JB, and more recently that it may not (will not?) work on 5.0.1, should we upgrade from 4.3.3 to 5.0 as 5.0.1 is released? before the window is closed ...or not?

The truth is nobody knows the answer yet. Until we hear definitively from a trusted source (one that is actually capable of delivering a jailbreak), then you should do nothing. I would expect the news to come when 5.0.1 goes public but the 5.0 window remains open for a short while, so make sure you pay attention. As soon as we have news, we will post it in this section quite clearly for everyone to see... as will every other jailbreak related site!

Cool - thanks,

Ok, so say if 5.0 is the go, if I'm currently tethered JB will a fresh stock iOS restore be required first or can JB the untethered over the tethered? (irrespective of whether u lose cydia apps, etc)

The hole that pod2g will be using for his jailbreak will likely be closed in 5.0.1 since Charlie Miller has revealed the exploit to Apple now. Because of this it would be smart to update to iOS5 before they stop signing it because likely pod2g's untethered jailbreak will not work on 5.0.1. However, other teams have been working on jailbreaks based on other exploits since before Charlie Miller even found this hole, so likely we will eventually see an untethered jailbreak come from a different team that will support newer releases of iOS5.

So an untethered 5.0 will work over a currently tethered 5.0 JB? I Don't believe this is confirmed in f4780y's post above.

Nobody knows till its out, but in the past it has been possible to untether a tethered jailbreak. Nothing is guaranteed though...

It's official, Charlie Millers codesign exploit has been patched in the public release of 5.0.1, if you want to have an untethered jailbreak on iOS5 I would advise updating to an iOS5 firmware now before they stop signing it!

Why does apple care do much it's our phones and they will get jb one Wat or another

Because if they force everyone to be on the same newest firmware, it reduces the amount of problems people have on older firmware. Android doesn't force people to update and look at their problems. 90% of their users aren't even using the lastest Android firmware.

Apple care so much for security and stability of the devices.. is their excuse any way. But if you notice every major update with a tone of new features most of the new features are jailbreak tweaks

I would beg to differ on that one. The Verizon ones anyway bc the OG droid and Incredible I had got the updates pushed to them without having to do anything. So everyone should have the update unless they keep pressing cancel when the notification pops up.

This infographic says it all:
