Good news on ios 5 untethered jailbreak

Could be the battery issue.
It's worth the wait for untethered 5.1.
I hope apple doesn't drag the beta process out until iPhone 5 and or iPad 3
Release.

It really doesn't matter. With OTA delta updates, any exploit can be patched literally within hours of being identified. Go ahead and wait till 5.1 ships. 5.1.1 can be available to patch the hole as soon as Apple identifies the problem code.

The days of widely available jailbreaks are coming to an end, if they are not already over...

Nothing has changed except that OTA updates are now available(which can't be applied to jailbroken devices BTW). Apple has ALWAYS released a patch for an exploit immediately after it is made available. The point is that at least if he waits till 5.1 is released 4S users will have their battery issues fixed. Besides that, nothing has changed in terms of the way the jailbreaking scene works.

There are naysayers who say that the "end of jailbreaking" is coming after EVERY major iOS release. I remember people saying the exact same thing when iOS4 came out and look at how that went(we had a jailbreak for nearly every single iOS4 release).

Ya.... they said that about the Xbox360 back in 2005 too.... there is no such thing as "unhackable" when there is a will there is a way. For every coder that Apple has working for them there are dozens of equally and more qualified people out there to hack the software. They don't need to completely rewrite the OS from the ground up to create security holes. All they need to do is add one feature or change the way one little thing works and they are opening themselves up to new holes.

You are forgetting that the iOS3 jailbreak took nearly 3 months. The time it takes between the release of a new firmware and the time that firmware is jailbroken is in no way indicative of how secure the firmware is. These hackers have jobs, lives, uncontrollable events that effect how much time they can spend hacking. Unfortunately for us Apple took one of our best hackers this year, Comex, which most definitely attributed to the wait time we are experiencing right now.

I've been part of the Xbox hacking scene, Xbox360 hacking scene, PSP hacking scene and the iPhone hacking scene, and in every one of those scenes there were ALWAYS people who said "eventually they will get everything locked up real tight and the hacking days will be over." Well guess what, all of those scenes are still alive and kicking.

Why is everyone so impatient for this untethered jb?

You can do a semitethered right now.

And with the a5 chip devices, the devs need to counter 2 issues. First is finding the flaw in the software that allows the exploit, and second is changing the firmware/boot image so that it can be untethered.

And on top of it all, it is the holidays. They have other things to do besides sit around and write code all day long.

How about everyone stop nagging and complaining about the issue, and sit back and wait for it to be released...

Eh?

On that note, merry Xmas all!

Plus one million. Well said man!
There's no way I can add to that. You hit the head on the nail. :D!!

My memory of the OS3 'time 'til JB' is different - more like 2 months.

iOS3 was released was released March 17th 2009, the Pwnage Tool jailbreak was released June 19th 2009, so it was OVER 3 months. And again, the time it takes between the firmware being released and the time it is jailbroken does not indicate that the firmware is becoming more secure, it can be due to any number of factors.

Tell that to all PS3 owners... lol

The PS3 has been jailbroken.... nobody wants to hack the PS3 because Sony will sue them. Apple doesn't sue people for jailbreaking so there's no deterrent for hackers to stay away from it.
