Video issues

Lets see where to start.

I successfully downloaded video from my phone onto my PC.

I am trying to put them on a disc (cd or dvd) so I can give them to my sister. I want them to be in full HD in a format she can open and manipulate so she can combined them in a bigger video project. What is the best way to do this?

Also what are pc users using for viewing/editing these HD clips?

The most HD format i've seen is MKV. My sony camera puts out MP4 videos before conversion.
