What's new

The (average) iPhone user

I've had every black berry that has came out in the last few years and enjoyed them and liked them alot. But even when they were running good, they would till freeze up at the worst times possible or restart for no apperant reason. I had to have a program that rebooted it automatically once a day just so it would run smooth. Blackberrys are great phones, but lacked the user experience I was after.

I heard good things about the droids, so I tried one and the wow factor was great on it. I had it for a few weeks and didnt like the way it felt to type on it. Also the battery life was awful and it would freeze up and it had to be rebooted regularly.

I went back to my blackberry bold and decided to try the iphone. Never been a fan of all the iphone hype, but I instantly liked it from the feel of the typing on the touchscreen to the way it interacted. In months of heavy use its froze once and never have to reboot it just so it will work right. everything on it works well and you just don't have problems with it. The battery life on the iphone isnt great, but it is way better than the blackberry and droid. And I am a heavy user with text, web and email so battery life is very important. Quite a few friends have the left the droid and blackberry just for that reason alone because who wants a phone that has to be plugged up all the time.

Ive tried wm before and just have never been impressed and never had a friend that like the wm os. They always complained about it freezing and if I was gonna change phones it had to be better in everyway than my blackberry, cause I really like my blackberry. The iphone meets and exceeds my expectations. The only thing I don't like is you have to jailbreak it to customize it and personalize it. But once I jailbroke mine, I fell in love all over again with it.

I still do have a blackberry also and like it, but only use it for blackberry messenger.

Hope this helps.

Thank your for your respons. Good argumentation about why you choose the iPhone above al other platforms. Although I hear from BB users that these batteries have a long life compared with iPhone. May it be that the new BB have a better battery which can hold out longer? And you mentioned the term 'Freeze', does it mean your phone get stuck and doesn't do or react on anything you do.. only restarting?
I would like to hear from you if you use your iPhone for personal use or for work? And if for work, what other stuff do you do except messaging, for instance; reading articles. Who do you message, colleagues? And when, after or at work?

My brother is using iPhone and it is awesome. He will just do what he wants with his phone unlike me. Though it is lmite for some of the usages. It is a good substitute for a Netbook.

I have never seen such an interface in any other mobile Phone.

My iPhone battery lasts longer than bb, I use my iPhone for both, at work I use email web and message, while at work and away from work, I type reports on my iPhone when I'm away from work and email them to colleagues

Also interesting is what kind of options or techniques you would like to be add to the smartphone in the future (lets say 2015). Think off open or lock doors with your smartphone or start computers with your smartphone.

It doesn't have to be on your own smartphone.

@ Colt; Can you tell me if you use your iPhone for school or work? and if so.. what features do you use?

@ Dreamo84; As I understand you don't use the iPhone for work? If I'm wrong I would like to know from you what features you use.

@ all of you; Could you pls tell me what kind of job or study you do (doesn't have to be the exactly name, sector is also fine to me) and your age. I would like to know if there is affinity in iPhone users, except that they have an iPhone.

Edit: and I would also like to know what features you expect in 2015 from a smartphone (see earlies post)

I do not use it for work. I am a 26yr old cage cashier at a local Indian casino.

I enjoy doing my web banking, checking emails, eBay. Shopping, web browsing, and of course I love the video games. All things I never felt were enjoyable experiences on my blackberry.

Edit: In 2015 I expect we'll start to see even more connectivity between smartphones and home computer devices. I think the ultimate goal is to make your portable experience as much like your home experience as possible.

TY all for your responses!

I'm analysing these days, but still feel free tot post your answer here. Also what features you like to see in 2015 of the regular smartphone

Doesn't seem like a completely objective study if you want to exclude what you stated in your original post. You said: "I’m not interested in answers like 'I chose my iPhone because it looks beautiful' or 'I chose the HTC Desire because of the many apps I can download'." Do you have any idea how many people chose the iPhone or an Adroid etc. for just this reason? Probably thousands.

Personally, I don't think there is a perfect phone, since individual users have individual preferences. I am coming from a BlackBerry, after my old BB went down, I bought the BlackBerry Torch—hated it. I returned the Torch for the HTC Inspire and couldn't stop re-thinking my decision in not paying an extra hundred bucks to get the iPhone 4. I like the iP4 much better just because it's so much smoother and faster (than the HTC Inspire). Not to mention that the HTC was HUGE! As for my transition from BlackBerry to iPhone 4: there are many things about the BlackBerry that I miss but wouldn't return to it since owning the iP4. The only reason I switched from BB is because the newest model (BB) available to me from AT&T is a cheap little throw-away model that doesn't even have a camera flash (I have to have a flash for work) or, the BB Torch. As I said; I despised the Torch because of the slide, constantly sliding that open and closed to access the keyboard. That's all I got...

In some way you're right about the many that choose a smartphone because of the looks and apps, but that is not always the decisive reason. E.g. I chose my iPhone because I wanted a smartphone which had fast internet (3G) have a good camera, big memory, touch screen (bad experience with keyboards), sync with hotmail (but it must not a smartphone of which the email function is so fine, but at the cost of other function). That are my main reasons, only one reason which is app related, I wanted a smartphone which could you use a program like whatsapp to message with my friends without using money (except the internet costs).
The reason I choose the iPhone after filtering my needs was ... yes, the look and feel. That's why I think you're right in some way. But look how many reasons other gave me (also on other fora') which isn't about apps and looks.

In either way, thank you for your response.

You said it right there. After filtering everything you actually want a phone to do on a daily basis, the iPhone just looks, feels, and runs good on top of doing all these things.

Don't get me wrong, the main reason for mebis not how it looks like. If I should choose a smartphone only for the look and feel I would't choose the iPhone.
I would bet there are many people how doesn't own a smartphone which is the bests looking of all.

As if I said, all the responses I get on fora' and enquetes, just a couple of people mentioned they choose there smartphone cause of how it looks like.

Edit: I didn't have many needs on my smartphone, but most others does. And that is the targetgroup the OS's (also) aim for.
