According to a new report, iPhone users pay more than Android consumers for their apps. The information was posted on Flurry’s official blog – a mobile app analytics firm which has been in charge of the survey.

The average sum paid by an iPhone user for an app is 19 cents, while iPad users will pay up to 50 cents. On the opposite pole, Android owners pay just 6 cents on average per download. The data has been collected off 350,000 apps for both iOS and Android.

What the research provided by Flurry actually showcases is that consumers would rather see in-app advertising and get free content, especially in the case of Android users. And what all users like are free apps. Back in 2010, the market only saw 84% of the apps made as free, but today, in 2013, the levels have risen to 90%. So, as it is with television commercials, users are willing to tolerate them as long as they get their free stuff.

This trend is even visible in the most popular app selling portal today: the Apple App Store. Flurry explains this as consumer choice.

“People want free content more than they want to avoid ads or to have the absolute highest quality content possible.”

A peculiar thing that the study found was that even though most users prefer their apps free, iPad users are the most willing to pay cash for theirs. In April 2013, users wanting to purchase an iPad app paid 2.5 more than an iPhone user and 8 times more than an Android user.
