Question about jailbreak!!!

Sorry if this is a stupid question.....i'm new to jailbreaking.

I jailbroke my iPhone4 with greenpois0n and im using iOS 4.1

I heard that this was a "permanant jailbreak", so I'm wondering if I can just go ahead and update my iOS to 4.2.1 or if this is going to screw something up.

Do not update. Once you update you will lose your jailbreak. Plus for 4.2.1, the only jailbreak option right now is tethered which means anytime you reboot your phone or the battery dies, you will need to run the jailbreak from your PC to boot up the phone. Also there is no unlock at the moment.

Alright thanks Bruce. The Chronic Dev Team is supposed to be releasing untethered greenpois0n soon tho, right???

And another question.....If I WERE to update, can I still back up my files in iTunes when I update considering my phone is jailbroken?? Won't that cause some sort of problem??

You can backup your iPhone prior to updating without any problems.

As for the new untethered JBs, we're all patiently waiting for it to be released. I'm hoping it'll be soon as I am JB on 4.2.1 right now.
