According to a story on AppleInsider today, after September 30th, people buying an iPhone 4 can no longer apply for a free case as part of Apple's "Case Program", although they will still be able to ask for a free bumper via AppleCare if they're experiencing antenna problems. Apple also took the opportunity to announce that it would also be restoring its normal returns policy, therefore terminating the temporary 30-day "return with no restocking fee policy". Here's a quote from the official iPhone 4 Case Program site that explains why they've decided to discontinue the free case program after reviewing the situation as promised:
"We now know that the iPhone 4 antenna attenuation issue is even smaller than we originally thought. A small percentage of iPhone 4 users need a case, and we want to continue providing them a Bumper case for free. For everyone else, we are discontinuing the free case program on all iPhone 4s sold after September 30, 2010. We are also returning to our normal returns policy for all iPhone 4s sold after September 30. Users experiencing antenna issues should call AppleCare to request a free Bumper case."
