just downloaded the jail break for ios 5.1 and i cant install anything on clydia

I don't think 5.1 is out yet but if it is... You were not suppose to update to 5.1!!! There is not jailbreak yet for that, it's not safe! Hopefully you saved you SHSH, it you did, go ahead and downgrade.

Are you talking about 5.0.1? If so, download the "Winterboard Fix for IOS5" from cydia and that's should fix your issue. Worts case scenario. You will need to restore to a fresh 5.0.1 in Itunes and then run the jailbreak again. Also before installing WB or any tweaks, INSTALL SBSETTINGS FIRST! I encountered and issue after installing WB that the screen shrynked to the top left corner of the screen and I wan not able to do anything. The only way to fix this at the moment is by going to safemode and restart the springboard in SBETTINGs.

You need to download from Cydia itself, add this source

Since the other sources that you need contains piracy I cannot post them here. Just google "winterboard fix IOS 5" and you're find it.

In my opinion. If I were you, I just restore in itunes to a fresh IOS 5.0.1 and then jailbreak again just to make sure Cydia will be fully funtional. You will spend some time doing that but hey, it will be a fully working jailbreak!
