Reuters has a newsflash this morning which is pretty emphatic with its assertion that the new iPhone 5 will be shipping in September, with Apple to start production of the new handset in July/August. Reuters says that this information comes from three people with direct knowledge of the companys supply chain. This differs slightly from reports earlier in the week that also mentioned September, but only as a possible start date for the iPhone 5s manufacture, which would have meant it shipping probably around November or December.
The Reuters report says that the new iPhone will look very similar to the iPhone 4, but will have a faster processor. Again, this backs up various snippets of information that have been leaking out from Apples supply chain over the past few weeks. Interestingly though, Reuters does not mention the A5 chip by name, instead simply referring to a faster processor. Apple has recently used the A5 chip in the iPad 2, so the general assumption has been that the next iPhone will also have the A5. Reuters does, however, name names as far as suppliers are concerned, stating that companies making parts for the iPhone 5 include camera module maker Largan Precision Co Ltd, touchscreen panel maker Wintek Corp and case maker Foxconn Technology.
