Fed up with antenna problems!

Sent from my iPhone 4… eventually
What goes up must come down, and in the spirit of things I start by saying it was destined. The hype, the carnival and the unshakable trend that was apple and the popular iPhone, now apple have an army of angry, disillusioned customers who want nothing more than answers and blood.
It starts with a problem “hey my phone call keeps cutting out!” the reason is clear when handling the iPhone you may disrupt the signal by touching the antenna. Outraged and sold a fading dream the vision of a perfect product thrown in the dirt.
Communications between apple and their customers are short and really unhelpful, Steve Jobs is quick to down play the problem and tell people there is more to life than the iPhone (you know… he is right) and the negative comment, posts, articles roll in.
The options are clear… refund, HTC desire, nail polish, iphone 4 case, hands free, gloves

Why don't you take the phone back either replace it or get a credit the army is small compared to number of satisfied customers.
Being angry does not help. I have owned nokia smart phones, blackberry phones and iPhones all with exception of the iphones have had serious problems the iPhone is without question the best phone ever. When i had a problem with 2 blackberry phones I returned them simple as that.

All consumer products regardless of whom makes them can have issues. As for Apple and poor service sorry i and my client base do not agree. after providing solutions to hundreds of satisfied users I cannot fault the company at all for their excellent support. I understand you are angry and that's fine but why don't you just take it back ?

After my last outing in to the antenna problem it would seem new somewhat life endangering problems are arising or maybe it was a one in a million freak occurrence. The problem now is that an apple customer got quite a shock when the iPhone they were charging caught fire… yes the iPhone 4 burst into flames as pictured.

Again an onslaught of negative comments and mockery ensued. Apple has yet to respond but their input will be helpful if past correspondence is anything to go on. The solution is simple… there is a lot of talk online about this problem but there has been little forward moving ideas.
When charging your phone take precautions, fill a bucket with water apply this waterproof iPhone 4 case and throw your iPhone into the bucket as pictured. This will prevent the spread of fire and may limit damage to you iPhone.

Wow..... I really don't understand what you are trying to say. Yes, we can all go to sites and copy "worst case" pictures and articles. But when you can just return it and you think that's better for you then by all means go right ahead! As an electrician I can take one look at that photo and tell you that there was more to that story than "it just caught on fire" ahem...water. I think most electronics would fair just about the same...or melt ;)

This really is a non issue. Why do people get so uppity about some problem that is so easily alleviated by the 10-40 dollar case that they were going to purchase regardless? Buy the case and enjoy the greatness that is the iPhone 4.

Because a 400+ dollar piece of equipment should function properly. Also aside from something used to browse the Internet and check mail, it's a phone first. If you have this phone and have experienced the problem ou would know that this is no simple fix. This is a major engineering flaw that affects every call I make. I'm just not cool with it! I've owned every iPhone and never had a complaint but this alone is enough to consider a different phone untill the problem is fixed and apple takes responsibility.

It's the software not the phone. 3G and 3GS do the same thing with the 4.0 software. Plenty of vides and posts to show it. If ya don't like the phone just return it. If ya like it like most do, wait for the update and or get a case.

Danny boy, what would you do if you bought a new car and the radio did not work , but the dealer said oh all you have to do is buy an antennae and it will work fine.If you buy a 200$ phone and it doesnt work properly you shouldnt have to buy accesories to make it work, please quit making excuses.

I did I purchased the same phone as you payed $$399....As Col said issues are in the minority.... Im not making excuses just stating phones are not burning up left and right...and signal problems are not an issue unless you don't have good service anyway........... Most important point RETURN IT if you don't like it....Same as i would do with a new car.... ;) I do hope you find a phone you are happy with! It always stinks having a phone that doesn't work the way you want it to.

Danny is not making excuses it is plain and simple it does not affect every user as we both said it affects a small percentage of buyers. It will not stop me or any of my clients from buying the new phone when it is released in Australia, reason is simple it is with out doubt the best phone on the market. I also allways purchase a case as it protects my investment. It's like putting polish on your car to protect it, if you don't it reduces the resale value when you go to sell it and upgrade.

One other point trolling the internet looking for negatives about any products is a waste of time. It reminds me when the iPad was released all we heard about was lack of flash and no multitasking. Funny thing is you don't hear about it as much because millions whom purr, chased it don't care. What happens every man and his dog along with junior editors whom don't know how to write publish the stuff and the give their 2 cents worth just to try and get attention.

And just so i make it clear . I have network of friends world wide whom purchased the new iphone4 and out of 30 whom I have spoken to not one has stated it is a serious problem. Most of these users are in England and about 10 in USA, california where I use to live. My American friends were more upset about ATT. 50% also own ipads

Here's my take on the situation. The iPhone is a leading edge technology product or as some like to put it....bleeding edge. Any technology company that's going to 'take point' and make the advances in a developing field is going to encounter some surprises. The guy taking the team through the jungle, who's at the point with his machete is going to get more scratches than those following. I laud Apple for their vision in the development of this amazing communication tool. In the event I find I'm not willing to share the burden of developmental 'hiccups' with them, I have the choice to abstain from using their products. What I don't understand, is the mentallity behind the people who are all too willing to judge and condemn a company for these expected occurances of dysfunction. I think they're the same people who lash out in traffic becuase they can do so without accountability. Did Apple promise you a bright new future? No. If you don't like the product, take it back.

Made in China. The very words send chills up and down my spine. It's not just about iPhones or alarmclocks, but drinking glasses, shower curtain hooks, childrens toys....pantyhose... HELL who knows! Do you really think Apple has control over quality of the products made in China? Chinese companies will do whatever they want to 'trim the fat' and Apple will be none the wiser. Till the devices fail in droves.

Internet plants. Several months ago I was shopping high end ear buds. Like most of you, I sift through pages and pages of web info to get the consumers pulse on the merits or demerits of a product. I got my answers and made a choice. I bought some Bose earbuds. What surprised me though is what else I got. I noticed so many tech review sites that had rediculous posts that were so over the top in condemning a product that they appeared inauthentic. I think there's an army of drones out there that go to forums and spread negative propaganda about their competitors products. Once the iPhone 4 developmental 'hiccup' was out of the bag, these types pounced. Apple's at the point....gets a scratch....here come the dogs.

Again, I know there's always a risk of surprise when I buy a cutting edge tech product. I appreciate what Apple is creating. I understand I can return a product that doesn't perform for me. I take responsibility for my choices. I just don't understand these blamers. :(

If you buy a new car and the radio does not work, you have it fixed UNDER WARRANTY. If the warranty repair does not work, you return the car or evoke the lemon law.

You have the same options with your phone. Even more actually, as returning it is easier than returning a car.

People complain for the sake of complaining. Yes some phones may have issues while others do not. If you truly like the product but you may have received a faulty unit, then do something about it and stop whining. Or RETURN it and buy a Palm or Windows Mobile unit. We all know they are stable as a rock and never have issues.

That is a. Joke yes.... I returned 2 windows mobiles a few years ago because they either froze or just did not work ended up with a new blackberry which was great. This was way before the iPhone came out.

They are taking the mick telling everyone there holding the iPhones wrong...they built them wrong (some of them, not all of them), i mean, mine woks fine, but if it didnt, i would be super pi**ed. I dont want to have to use a case on my iPhone either, i like how it looks, dont want to spoil it with a case...I look after my Phones very well, if they made it faulty, they shouldjust admit it and fix it, we all know the iPhone 4 isnt perfect...

Bumper case is the solve the problem, I bought one and hold it so I do not block the antenna port, it is worse with the bumper on

I thought the people in This forum were going to be pretty product savvy, but it seems most are not researching the issue at all. With a little looking you can plainly see that this problem is not a design flaw of the phone 4. Every iPhone apparently behaves this way and the behavior was really brought to light by iOS 4. Look at these videos of non iPhone 4s showing the antenna drop too and it clearly debunks any thoughts that it's a iPhone 4 design flaw. The only reason people were even saying that is because Apple made a big deal about it being the first phone to have the antenna integrated into the case/structure. I'm just saying let's be real about the issue and stop the bandwagon chatter and misinformation

I see you are showing every video BUT the ones of the iphone 4s showing the phone sitting on a table with no issue UNTIL you pick it up by the antenna. Also i own a 4 and 3gs. Have them sitting side by side. (in hand or on a table, u choose) and the iphone 4 has at least 2 bars less. Lets see you explain that. Oh and also when i tested my phones, they were both 4.0 stock.
