Any word??

Well my first post other then a hello here.I am coming from Android where everything was pretty easy once things got rooted.... and im keeping my SGS2 to play with and the new iPhone 5.The thing is i see people saying they are going to wait to upgrade but i say why wait? the longer you wait the longer it is before your upgrade starts over again and maybe not be ready when you want another phone so i always use my upgrade when avil if there is a phone i want why wait?

Now about this here are a few questions...What is the difference in jailbreaks? Teathered or not? and i have the sprint one how long will it be before it can be unlocked? someone wants to buy 1 from me and wants it unlocked not jailbroken.

But what is the difference in those jailbreaks? i use my SGS2 for free paid apps at times and mostly to tether if needed so if someone who has time would like to catch me up on this while we wait for the phone thanks in advance.

This will be my first iPhone coming from Android so be easy with me hahaha

Welcome to the site rdcrds. I will go easy on you since you are new, but I need to be clear. We support legitimate jailbreakers here at iPhoneForums. Jailbreaking to enhance features and unlocking is OK. Jailbreaking is NOT about stealing apps which you would otherwise pay for. That's piracy, illegal, and simply not on around here, OK? Please read our rules which are quite clear on this.

Reminder - Rule 15
Discussion of pirated or cracked applications and any methods associated with enabling their use, such as posting app or repository names, is forbidden on this forum. This also includes discussion of illegally obtaining media such as music, movies, games, books or other copyrighted content.
Piracy is illegal and the staff of iPhoneForums.net neither supports or condones it in any way. Jailbreaking and hacking is not an excuse to steal or pirate software!
Discussions, links, and sharing of any piracy related topics, apps, repositories, etc., will be deleted and the member will receive a warning which may lead to a ban.

Now that we've set you back on the straight and narrow, there's more bad news.

Apple security is pretty tight. The last several iterations of devices have had no known bootrom exploits meaning the are very hard to jailbreak. Typically it has taken anywhere from several weeks to several months to jailbreak a new device or a new major version of IOS. There is nothing known at the moment regarding iPhone5 on iOS6 in terms of when a jailbreak is likely, but you should expect a timescale measured in weeks. Personally, I believe we will be lucky to get one this side of Christmas, but I look forward to being proven wrong and eating my hat.
See our thread here re. your questions about tethered and untethered jailbreaks - http://www.iphoneforums.net/forum/iphone-jailbreaking-17/jailbreaking-methods-iphone-18519/
For the avoidance of doubt through, it is highly unlikely that a tehtered jailbreak will be available any time soon on the iPhone5 since it would involve exploiting the bootrom (all related to the points I was making earlier in this thread).

Unlocking is slightly different. There are 2 types of unlock. Software and Hardware. Software requires a jailbreak as a first step, then you need a software exploit in the baseband to unlock the device. There has not been a new baseband exploit found in a very long time, so it is again very unlikely we will see one soon which would work on the iPhone5.
Hardware unlocks work by using a SIM imposer device (a new SIM card tray with electronics to bypass the lock). Again, as soon as these get released, Apple typically patches the phone baseband to block it, so its' unlikely we will see a new one quickly for the iPhone5 since it has all new electronics which need to be hacked by the manufacturers. But there is a lot more recent positive history regarding the SIM imposer manufacturers delivering unlock solutions for new iPhones. We have an unlocking section with lots more details and a great sticky on the subject.

Sorry that all seems quite negative, but rest assured, if you stay tuned to the forum you'll get info on the latest developments as folks hear about them.

In the meantime, enjoy your new iPhone5 in "stock & locked" configuration for the time being! I know that's what I'll be doing :D

There are also many legit hardware unlocking services out there that usually offer unlock for the most recent phones long before a jailbreak is available. These are true permanent factory unlocks you pay for whether your phone is in or out of contract. I'm not sure if links are allowed or not - but officialunlocks.com is one such reputable place. It won't be available for the iP5 immediately. This only became possible with AT&T phones in April. Since I only use AT&T I don't know if said companies can work with CDMA phones too. Just do some googling.
