Hi!

So long story short, my boyfriend dropped his brand new iPhone 4 (refurbished, purchased from eBay) which had no prior problems at all. We got it fixed at a Mobile Hospital (bye bye apple assistance) because of the fact that it was a refurbished phone and wasn't under apple warranty.

Okay so awesome, all of it was fixed for $180, BUT the guys forgot to turn the phone on and look for any (obvious!) signs of problems. The moment we got home, we charged it for a couple of hours and realised that the WiFi was greyed out. Being the modern bugs we are, we searched on the internet for solutions. At first we thought we were being trolled with the freezer trick and hair dryer trick, but regardless we tried the former (because we didn't want to overheat a newly repaired iphone).
So that didn't work...

We took it back to the same people who fixed it last time and kind of demanded that they had a look. They kept it for about a week and a half and notified us that they were sending it to another person to look at because they don't specialise in changing WiFi chips. Everything came back negative, they didn't really give us a reason, just said it couldn't be done. However, we recall them saying that they were hesitant to take a look because apparently to reach the WiFi chip, you have to pretty much pull everything out.

So we're at a dead end. My boyfriend's bummed because WiFi is something he lives on as he uses prepaid and doesn't like soaking up his credit. ANYWAY. He just recharged his phone and we've been trying for a while, but it keeps notifying us on Safari that he has insufficient funds. For some reason (maybe the fact that he has plenty of credit) we don't believe that it's a fund problem. Any suggestions???

I've been looking around and I'm so confused about what the difference between a WiFi chip and a WiFi antenna is. I live in Sydney, Australia and would really appreciate also if anyone could comment a reliable source that will actually replace WiFi chips (if that is the problem??!). So yeah we're at a loss. He needs his phone for work, his life essentially, and he's currently using a broken iPhone 3 as a replacement. We need the precious iPhone 4 back to working condition!

Note: everything but the internet is working, including texts and calls, Bluetooth, the works... So please help!

Regards,
A very tired, annoyed and confused Ashleigh x

Hi, thanks for that I guess. I was trying to find a way to delete the duplicate post but couldn't see a clear sign of how to. I had accidentally published the previous post before completing it because I was on my iPhone and pressing the 'Done' button on the pop-up keyboard for some reason published the post. Please fix that.

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

1. Do a hard reset (reboot). Hold the top power button and the home button at the same time, until the Apple logo appears, then release.
2. Make sure that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
3. Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings. You may need to enter your wifi passcode back in afterwards.
4. Make sure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.

Let us know how this works. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply @Ledsteplin, but we've tried all those methods multiple times. They are the outlines given by apple support and they did not work in this situation, the same goes for many other people.
