Unlock Query

I have a friend that has an iphone4 locked to AT&T running iOS4.x.x. His phone is unlocked using ultrasn0w. He wants me to help him update his software to iOS5 while maintaining his unlock. BB is 01.59. Some questions that I have:

1) is it possible to upgrade his software to iOS5 when apple is only singing ios6 now?

2) his phone is now 3 years old and when he bought it it was locked to AT&T which is why he needed the unlock. Do you think that AT&T will now unlock it for free since the contract the phone is bound to has already expired?

1) Yes, but only if you have the SHSH blobs for the iOS you want to restoer to

2) Probably not.
