Iphone wifi? Issue

Wondering if anybody could help, I recently found my original iphone and apart from the battery only lasting approx 45minutes on a full charge it seems to work perfectly except the wifi, Today I managed to eventually find a wifi signal but lost it again about 5seconds later any ideas? Thanks in advance

you could try resetting your network-Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings.

Already tried but did not fix the issue :/ I thought it might have been hardware until I got a wifi signal for a few seconds

I've tried restoring the phone and erasing all data etc :/ time to call apple??
