Iphone question

How can i now if my iphone 4 has a built in gps tracking sistem? I want to know in case i loose it or it get's stollen.I just bought it today.I read that it can t be tracked if it hasn t got a sim in it.If it is used offline,no sim can it still be tracked?

You can get find my iPhone for free if you've updated past 4.2.1.

It won't work unless the phone is turned on and I believe it needs to be connected to the Internet (3G, wifi etc.)...
