I have a lady friend who lost her Iphone 5 two months or so ago. It is safe to assume that the battery died that night (it was already low and it was very cold that night). So she could not track it after that night. Assuming the worst case scenario: i.e. that the phone was found, they removed the SIM card and restored it and now they are using it ONLY as an Ipod Touch. Can the phone be tracked/located when they connect via WiFi to the internet OR use iTunes by using the IMEI number (or serial number)? Would the GPS help with that? Thanks.

We don't support tracking or pinging of any kind here on iPhoneForums unfortunately with regards to the fact that it is an invasion of privacy and is in the grey area of legal standards even if it is for good intentions. You would have to call up Apple or your carrier and see if they can ping your device's GPS. Otherwise, your best option would be to report it stolen, have the ESN and IMEI blacklisted and get a new phone. If you have insurance, Apple or your carrier will give you a new phone.

And with that, this thread is CLOSED.
