iPhone newbie: how do notifications work? (coming from Android)

Hi there,

My wife got an iPhone 14 Max. She used to use Android phones, and now she feels very confused about the notifications on the iPhone.
Basically, what's throwing her off is that when she receives a notification, she notices it at the top of the screen, but the moment she taps in another area of the screen the notification is gone and it seems there's no notification area on the iPhone where to go back to look at the notifications received as she used to do on the Android.

I tried to help, but I too am lost.

Are we missing something?

There is a Notification Centre where she can find/see/respond to notifications.
Here’s how it works:

View and respond to notifications on iPhone

On the iPhone Lock Screen, view and respond to notifications of incoming messages, invitations, upcoming events, and more.

That helped.

We were swiping down from the top right which actually opens the other information such as internet connection, volume, focus, and so on.
Now I see the swipe has to happen on the other portion of the screen in order to access the notification area.
