Didn't the devs tell us that once we jailbreak our device will be jailbroken forever?
meaning if there's a new update out the jailbreak won't go away if we updated it?

I could be wrong but from my understanding this was what they meant?
but whatever happened to this?

I think it means they will always be able it jailbreak any software updates until apple upgrade the hardware on the phone. If you restore/update you will always loose the jailbreak but there will still always be a jailbreak tool...
