Got what it takes?

Hi everyone!

I got into a little trouble. My iphone was crushed today (i mean seriously crushed). The battery was torn out, screen destroyed, camera was torn out and such. One thing that did stay intact was the main board. This iphone has some very important information that I need to retrieve. Unfortunately I cannot even boot it up, and tryong to recover said information from an itunes backup is not an option...

I was wondering, is there any way to directly connect the main boared with the built in internal flash drive to a computer, give it just enough juice to be able to access the contents? The information in this phone is very sensative and needs to be extracted.

If someone knows a way, or someone who may know, please answer. Thank you guys for all your help.

Sounds like an expensive data recovery job. This may involve removing the NAND chip and reading the data directly from there which would involve specialist knowledge and equipment. There may be a simpler way someone may know about. What type of data is it you need to retrieve.

What would I need to extract the data from the NAND chip after its been separated from the board?

The data that I'm looking for is kinda hidden within the memory. It wasn't saved "directly" to the phone itself... Do you get what I mean?

The problem is- hiring a data recovery forensics expert like Cellebrite is kind of not an option right now.

The equipment to read from the NAND chip costs in excess of £1000 it is a specialist piece of equipment and needs a skilled operator to carry out the work needed .

IMO... a much easier way would be purchasing an equivalent model iPhone w/ a broken screen and such. Get a cheapo generic screen to replace and place your logic board in it. Just seems to me that would be much less trouble than employing a technician to extract data manually from the flash chip.

Well said. And good advice.

The work needed uses a skilled hand and is not advisable to be carried out by untrained persons. You can make your data unretrievable.

Guys, the data I am trying to extract cannot be viewed in the iphone itself. What I am saying is that it was placed directly into the NAND chip. The chip was then placed into the phone...

Its a series of PDF files and very large, high quality images which are hidden from being seen on or through the phone itself. It can only be extracted manually. Think of it this way... The data was put on the chip, the chip was then put into the phone.

A lot of the phone has been destroyed, crushed/burned. It seems as if part of the board is also a little damaged, but the chip which I have identified to be the NAND seems intact.

Send it to professionals would be the best bet. I wouldn't recommend doing the work them selves. I have seen many customers try their own data recovery and have lost their data for good.

Ouch!! sorry and yea I agree w everyone about sending it to someone who does exactly that because if the chip was put in than can you get it out and read the PDFs somehow?

Hiring professionals is not an option due to the sensitivity of the data. Its not a problem anymore however, a specialist was hired who was able to manually extract those .pdf files and such..
