With AirPods still in short supply (I’ve just checked and there’s currently a wait of 6 weeks in the UK, for example), MacRumors has a possible solution if you really need to get your hands on a pair sooner, but you’ll have to pay a premium price of $289 for the privilege.
Known for its custom paint jobs for Apple products, ColorWare has today announced that it has Apple AirPods in 58 different designs available to order. Costing $130 more than the Apple list price, you can choose to buy AirPods in many different shades, including solid colours and metallics. A glossy jet black option is also available.
You can also choose to have one AirPod in a different colour or design than the other, and if you throw in an extra $30 you can also have the AirPod charging case painted. Matt and gloss finishes are both available, as are custom colours.
Tweeting about its new custom AirPod range, ColorWare said that coming up with the right process for the customized AirPods was “FAR from easy,” which is not surprising, considering the fact that ColorWare painstakingly disassembles each AirPod and custom paints each individual component.
