Pocket-lint has a very interesting report from last week’s CES extravaganza, which looks at the possibility of Apple developing a waterproof iPhone. According to the report, the new technology, which is called HZO, protects your smartphone with a nano-scale film barrier imbued with water-repellent properties. Somewhat surprisingly, the film barrier is fitted inside the electrical device rather than outside, so fitting the film actually becomes part of the manufacturing process, as opposed to the user having to affix a waterproof case on the outside of the phone. If this all sounds a little bit mind-boggling, HZO has made the above video to show you exactly how it’s done, having already used the technology to waterproof an iPhone and various other phones. Pocket-lint say that they even got to witness at first hand an iPhone being repeatedly submerged in water.

According to HZO, they have already shown Apple the technology, and hope that Apple will use it as soon as the iPhone 5, although there’s no indication from Apple at present that they are doing anything more than talking to HZO.

This is really cool stuff. I've actually seen this stuff demo'd before but not on electronics, originally they used things like a plunger to demonstrate how it could be used in water then removed and you dont have to worry about filthy toilet water sticking to it because it would just roll off. It only make sense to make the jump to electronics, i really think Apple should adopt this for its electronics, this would save on so much stress for Apple customers and our fear of water.

Apple would be very foolish to not look into incorporating this
