Verizon Iphone 4 update or not to update

Okay im a newbie to the whole iphone thing, im coming from android. I've jailbroken my phone and everything is working fine. My question is I'm currently jailborken on software Version 4.2.6, and would like to know if i should go ahead and update to the most recent software put out by Verizon last week. Now i know i will lose my jailbreak, but how do i do about backing everything up so that i dont have to remember all of my jailborken apps, or is there no way around this when you take the software update? Just want to know for future reference how to go about something like this.
