Update Notification

Is there any way to turn off the the annoying red & white #1 above my settings icon.... I'm reluctant to update to 6.0.2 after reading about the battery life decrease.
I'm slightly anal about notifications on my home screen and would like to turn it off.....Any ideas aside from moving settings icon to a different screen?

huh, I havent updated yet I have no red and white #1 on my icon....

It's the counter for an un- responded to actions, as in a new e-mail or app. update. I'm wondering if there is a way to clear it without updating to 6.0.2
