Sms crashes when opening

i have an iphone 3g ios 4.2.1 i updated to this firmware months ago everything was working fine, today the sms crashes when i open any thoughts?

Try hard resetting (hold sleep/wake button and home button until you see the apple logo)

I wouldn't have iOS 4.X.X on a 3g iPhone at the first place, but like others have already suggested, hard reset your iPhone and if it doesn't solve the issue then factory restore it.

Ok so I ended up restoring with custom firmware. The SMS crash was due to my gf messing around in ifile specifically the SMS.db file. But yeah after trying to fix the file myself by renaming to SMS.db.saved, so the phone would generate a new file and still no dice I restored using custom firmware.
