Picture size in MMS messages

I've been wondering about the size of pictures that are sent along with MMS messages. If I take a 5mp picture with my iPhone and send it along with a message, does it get sent at full res? What about an even larger picture from another source?

I wouldn't see why not. Depending on the receivers phone they might not see the full resolution.
