According to a new in-depth report on the iPhone 7 from DisplayMate, via 9to5 Mac, the iPhone 7 display is the best iPhone display that DisplayMate has ever tested.

DisplayMate’s tests found that the iPhone 7 display had a record high contrast ratio for IPS LCD displays, record low screen reflectance when compared to other smartphones, and record colour accuracy. The tests also revealed that the iPhone 7 has “the highest peak brightness for a smartphone” and “the smallest color variation with viewing angle.”

The report goes on to say that the iPhone 7 display is 7% more power-efficient than that of the iPhone 6, despite the new phone having a much wider colour gamut. Together, the record colour accuracy and wide colour gamut add up to the iPhone 7 being “visually indistinguishable from perfect” and “very likely considerably better than any mobile display, monitor, TV, or UHD TV that you have.”

And, even more good news for Apple and anyone who has just bought an iPhone 7, as DisplayMate also revealed that the iPhone 7 display is actually even brighter than the 25% brighter claimed by Apple, measuring 705 nits rather than the 625 nits claimed by Apple, although automatic brightness must be enabled in order to achieve peak brightness.
