Old data onto new installation?

I've bought a second hand 4s, and restored it from a backup of my old 3G. Everything went fine, but the battery life is completely messed up. I goes down ridiculously fast. I've read from a few people that this can be a result of using old backups, so I need to set it up as new.
BUT... of course that means losing my all my data. The only thing i really need to keep is my contacts, and preferably text messages and notes. So is there anyway I can transfer these separately after setting the phone up?
