Hi
Just thought I would say hello.
I have an iPad 1, an iPod nano and an iPhone 4s.
The 4s is driving me nuts ! as we speak I am waiting for my third replacement !
I have lost four albums from my music collection which I use for work and can't find them anywhere, the signal on the phone comes and goes and I can't assign my own songs as ringtones despite several time consuming attempts involving creating acc files and renaming extensions.
When I spoke to my network provider O2 they suggested I switch to an android phone !
So here I am in a last ditch attempt to find someone with a bit more savvy than a chimpanzee on acid
Kind regards

Jon

Hi Jon... welcome to iPF.net!! Sorry that you've been having so many issues w/ your 4S. What issues have you experienced that required a replacement phone. As far as losing music... we have numerous users that express their angst towards the dedicated tether between the iPhone and iTunes. Have a look around for a while and check out all our Forum has to offer... quite a bit might I add. Hopefully you can find some answers to your issues. There's some good threads on how to make your own "Custom Ringtones" which I'm sure you'll find very helpful. Good luck to ya!

hello and welcome!

I am very surprised that o2 would suggest such a move but also 3 replacements is not good.

the ringtones: http://www.iphoneforums.net/forum/iphone-4-faq-16/how-make-custom-ringtones-your-iphone-20631/

ake sure you are doing it right. with your purchased songs did you authorise your device on itunes on that computer? thats one reason why it might not want to sync the songs.. also might be worth trying another provider as o2 might not have good coverage in your area.

did you buy directly from o2 or apple? I would advise getting it from apple as they are much more helpful then the useless people at o2.. if thats all the advise they give then I should be like a head supervisor there! I think most of your problems will easily be fixed.

on Lucy!! LoL acid monkey this weekend in London

Well I followed the link and created a custom ringtone many many thanks !

ok thats good.. one down.

can you tell me more about when you try to sync and lose purchased apps? did you authorise the computer?

Hi Jon.
Welcome to the best forum for iPhones iPads iPods etc out there. Since owning an iPhone and coming on here I have learnt vast amounts from the members.

As for losing your tunes, like leashed said is it because you haven't authorised your pc? iTunes is a world on its own but once you get the hang of it, it's kinda alright. You'll never stop learning with iTunes though! As for O2. Orange, T-Mobile, Virgin their all the same. Sales staff after commission only. Your best bet for answers is ringing O2 and asking them to put you through to AppleUK. Rather than you phone direct on an 0845. As you have only just got the phone you have free apple support for the first three months. Ring O2 on your designated free number from your phone and ask they transfer you, they have to do this. When through to apple they will have better and clearer knowledge to what's bugging you. Make the most of your three months! I did this when I first got mine and apple sorted quite a bit out for me.

Hope this helps.
Stick with iPhone you'll love it!

Good advice iHolophyte thank you I will certainly ring them.
Unleashed I didn't lose any apps I lost music, to be more specific music I use for my business.
I work as a fitness instructor and use the music for my classes
I buy the cd's from a company called pureenergy who make specialised exercise cd's it is all perfectly legal and I have the necessary licenses to play and use these.
I put the cd in to my laptop, I save it to desktop, I then open itunes and add it to library
The songs then go in to itunes as individual songs and not as a entire album I then create a playlist
Everything seems to be ok for a while and then for no reason the playlist then becomes empty and the songs cannot be found
I lost another one today
I run windows 7 on my laptop
Thank you for helping me

sorry I was not clear but what I meant was that when you do not authorise your computer then itunes refuses to let you sync any legit purchases from the itunes/app store including apps/games and songs you have purchased it could explain why you are losing these songs. To check if you are authorised..
  1. Open iTunes
  2. From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer. (In earlier versions of iTunes, access this option from the Advanced menu).
  3. When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Authorize.
you are a fitness instructor? very nice! I love going to the gym, I basically live there lol.

Hi again
I just checked and my laptop is authorised.
Thanks again and glad to hear you go to the gym have you tried kettlebells I teach them a lot they are very good.

G'day & Welcome to the FoRuM!! :)
