Need help updating my already jailbroken iphone 4 from 4.3.3 to 5.0.1

for some reason i am incapable of doing this. i get the 1604 error everytime i try to update my firmware on itunes and i just take it out of recovery mode and try again but will fail again the next time. anyone have any ideas?

Are you restoring a custom firmware? 16xx errors are usually because you are trying to restore a custom firmware and your device isn't in Pwned-DFU mode.

thanks...i somehow got it to work with enough trial and error...not quite sure how i finally got it...now im having another issue...im gonna make another thread for it though, thanks again

I'm having this same problem trying to jailbreak my buddy's phone.He paid some place to jailbreak it so I don't know if it's on custom firmware. Can you explain pwnd-dfu mode?

3194 usually means your iTunes is outdated.

From my understanding, pwnd-dfu mode puts your iPhone in a state where you can upload a custom firmware to it. The way I got mine to work was use redsnow to go from dfu to pwnd-dfu and use iTunes to manually insert the original 5.0.1 firmware then use redsnow again to rejailbreak and start over from scratch
