I just signed up because I was looking for some insight on a problem that I have. I was given a 1st gen. iPhone (2G I believe - I know, old.) that we've used mainly as a play toy for my son - now the bottom half of the touchscreen won't work, only the top half. I've looked online and tried some suggestions, the last being restoring the whole thing, but it still doesn't work. I can't even unlock the phone now since the slider tab is on the bottom of the screen. I took it to a neighborhood tech place and they said it would cost over 100 dollars to fix since the whole screen would need to be replaced.
Was wondering if anyone could provide some insight on this...are there other, cheaper alternatives? Or is it beyond saving? I would still love to use it for my son or as a mp3 player if I could...
