MacRumors reports that the iPhone X will cost a massive 6,999 Brazilian reals when it launches in Brazil on December 8, which works out at more than $2,150 USD, or more than double the starting price of an iPhone in the US.
One of the reasons for the huge difference in price is because Brazil imposes 60% duty on imported products with a value of up to $3,000, along with several other factors, such as Brazil’s stringent labour laws.
The iPhone X will be available at Brazil’s two Apple Stores located at VillageMall in Rio de Janeiro and the Morumbi shopping centre in São Paulo, but stocks are expected to be limited.
Aside from the Brazil launch, Apple also announced today that the iPhone X will be available in Colombia from December 1, and Chile from December 7 from select carriers and authorized re-sellers. The cost of the phone in those two countries has not yet been announced, however.
