in recovery mode but dont want to lose pics?

Hi, Ive just been on itunes and updated new version ( not sure if i tunes version or os version!!) before backing up xmas photos! came up with error message then phone showed in recovery mode! i tunes doesnt see my phone now and is prompting a reset which i believe will wipe my phone and all latest pics that were not backed up. Have read about downloads that allow you to exit recovery recboot and tiny umberella but none seem to download! any help to get back to how it was before i stupidly updated without having to restore would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance
