How to import android contacts with contact pics?

I'm trying to bring my contacts (108 total, each with a contact pic) from my android device into my iPhone 5s contacts. On my android device, I've exported my contacts to a .vcf file, then emailed the file to myself. I opened the file in my email on my iPhone and my iPad. The file contains every contact pic. When I add all these contacts to either my iPad or iPhone, the contacts add correctly, but none of the contact pics show up. Am I doing something wrong? Thank you for any help.

Set up the Gmail account on your iPhone and iPad and enable Contacts. This will also sync the pictures to your Apple device.

To set it up, go to Settings - Mail, Contacts, Calendars and add the account using the Google option.
