The HDR setting is a 50/50 shot IMO. I rarely ever use it... because most of the time I like the standard pic better. Sometimes, however, the HDR will come out better depending on the lighting and how "busy" the object your photographing is.

I agree, however I think the pics without it are usually good enough to render the HDR feature pointless. There are some third party HDR iPhone apps and Windows PC apps that can usually do a more extreme job on a single photo.

A true HDR pic is made up of more than one shot and the results cannot be compared. In my mind anyway.
