Hi-def photo question

I see the option on the camera to set it to HDR, but why do I have two photos in my camera roll every time I take one photo with this setting? I never understood that. Also, if I'm inside with low light and choose to turn the flash to ON, I have to change the camera type beforehand back to HDR all over again, and it becomes a pain in the neck. Is there a way to keep it on HDR until I decide to change it back?

Lastly, I saw that even though I took outside photos in HDR and zoomed in, it looks decidedly non-HDR when I viewed the photo. When I used my lower megapixel non-iPhone digital camera, those photos came out much nicer in zoom mode.

You can go into settings and turn off save original photo also you cant use the flash with HDR and try not to zoom with the iphone cuz its a digital zoom and it kills the quality of the photo.
Oh also its not HI-DEF HDR is High dynamic range.

So is HDR not any better quality than Hi-Def? I guess there's not Hi-Def with cameras - just video anyway.
