I've been a Verizon customer for several years and own a landline. With these, I have had excellent call quality. I received my iPhone recently and am quite dissatisfied with the call quality. When I am talking someone else with Verizon iPhone in an ideal talking environment (inside, no other voices), it's about 80% as good as previous phones. In all other situations, including listening to my own voicemail, it sounds quite tinny! It's like I am making a call over Skype. Is this just an Apple construction thing - i.e., Apple investing in everything else but the earpiece/microphone? Heard things about noise canceling technology making it sound tinny.

I've noticed that while talking on the phone during silence on the line and in a very quiet room I can hear a repeated clicking or ticking noise. It's driving me crazy. I'm wondering if it's just me or an iphone thing as well.

Never had such issues with my phone.

I actually have the best call quality I have ever had. Sorry to hear you are having an issue.

^^^^^^^^^ This.

My Verizon iPhone 4 seems to have the best call quality of any device i've ever had on their network. I've had the Moto v710, Moto e815, Samsung Flipshot, LG Voyager, BlackBerry Storm, Motorola Droid, and now the iPhone 4.

I have perfect call quality. I've had Verizon as long as I can remember. Switched to AT&T iPhone last September. Mic is best mic I've ever used. My fiancee records her music drafts on her phone and it's crystal clear as well. The earphone is perfectly fine as well. If anything I just wish the speakerphone was louder. That's it.
