I haven't used iTunes since 4s. Do I really need it for I5?

I back up to my computer so I really need it. Not only for that, I have 16gb wifi only. I stream my music from iTunes to Airport and then to my sound system. I can use stream to me from iTunes but usually I prefer the Amazon App since my music is backed up there.

Creating custom ringtones requires iTunes. So I don't know about you but I sure do. :)

I also use iTunes for backing up. For me it's a necessity!

I just installed it and I don't recognize the settings anymore, it's different. I remember setting up a new phone, it's required.

No it does not. I'm not using iTunes at all. I use imtoo iPhone app. Drag and drop to and from phone. Can even do any phone or iPad even if syncd to different computer. You only need iTunes for initial sync to create files s d then imtoo works

Just have it in case. ImToo and iExplorer are my go tos. Easy to use, much simpler UI and does the same thing iTunes does without me having to yell at my monitor.

I don't use iTunes on my iPhone 4. I use iTools for installing apps and backing up my iPhone. I use redsn0w to restore. The only time i do use it is to upgrade firmware but once I save my shsh blobs, I don't use it after that...

So if I activate my phone at AT&T, I don't need iTunes anymore? Or I still need it for initial set up?

Yeah, you still need iTunes after a restore or upgrade but once you get through the activation process, you can use alternatives of iTunes.

So mom, why the need for iTunes for backing up when there's iCloud? (Note: many of the rest of the replies here are nebulous at best, but yours cuts to the chase). So..... what does iTunes do for you that iCloud can't, in terms of backing up your phone's data?

iCloud only backs up contacts, pictures, notes, and calendar stuff. Using iTunes or other alternatives back up will back up data from apps and settings.

Using iCloud is good but it doesn't back up everything in your phone.

Plus, some users (myself included) love having that physical, plugged in, connection and backup that iTunes provides. Yes, on a daily basis I'm backed up to iCloud. However, once a week I'll connect to iTunes, sync everything and manually save a backup on my laptop.

I only use iCloud to back up my photos because I have too much I would need stored. iTunes I like because I can pick and choose what I want music wise and it helps me organize my apps better being able to look at each screen through iTunes.
