I haven't used iTunes since 4s. Do I really need it for I5?
I back up to my computer so I really need it. Not only for that, I have 16gb wifi only. I stream my music from iTunes to Airport and then to my sound system. I can use stream to me from iTunes but usually I prefer the Amazon App since my music is backed up there.
Creating custom ringtones requires iTunes. So I don't know about you but I sure do.![]()
So if I activate my phone at AT&T, I don't need iTunes anymore? Or I still need it for initial set up?
I also use iTunes for backing up. For me it's a necessity!

So mom, why the need for iTunes for backing up when there's iCloud? (Note: many of the rest of the replies here are nebulous at best, but yours cuts to the chase). So..... what does iTunes do for you that iCloud can't, in terms of backing up your phone's data?
Plus, some users (myself included) love having that physical, plugged in, connection and backup that iTunes provides. Yes, on a daily basis I'm backed up to iCloud. However, once a week I'll connect to iTunes, sync everything and manually save a backup on my laptop.iCloud only backs up contacts, pictures, notes, and calendar stuff. Using iTunes or other alternatives back up will back up data from apps and settings.
Using iCloud is good but it doesn't back up everything in your phone.
