Did a resent update anf now my iphone has the usb itunes logo and when i go to restore it comes back and gives me the error code -1 any help on how to fix would be great

Error -1.... I do believe this error come along w/ an iPhone 4 when it's trying to be restored from a previously installed Custom IPSW w/ a preserved Baseband. Download TinyUmbrella and use it to kick it out of recovery.

you need "fix recocery" if you are trying to downgrade 6.0 to 5.1.1

He said he was running an update, not trying to downgrade.

Could you tell us what iOS you were running and which iOS you were trying to update to? The more details, the easier it'll be to help you troubleshoot and it will help save us all from confusion.

I had this happen on a 3GS I bought over craigslist. Turned out to be a fried baseband chip. I was able to flash it using a cooked IPSW with no baseband, but it didn't work. You don't have many options here. You can try a cooked IPSW with Sn0wbreeze and see if that helps.

Here's a question for you and the OP, were these iDevices jailbroken?

Try these steps to successfully restore your iPhone:

Mac Users:

  1. Open Terminal (Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > Terminal)
  2. Type in: sudo nano /etc/hosts
  3. Type in your password and press the return key.
  4. Your hosts file should load.
  5. Put a "#" in front of any entry with gs.apple.com
  6. Control + O then press Enter. (This saves the file)
  7. Close Terminal
  8. Start iTunes.

Windows users:

  1. Close iTunes.
  2. Press Start button.
  3. Navigate to Applications > Accessories.
  4. Right click on Notepad and select "Run as Administrator".
  5. Once notepad opens, select File > Open
  6. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc
  7. Select the hosts file. (If no files are shown, change the filter to "All Files")
  8. Add a "#" in front of any entry with gs.apple.com
  9. Save the file.
  10. Exit Notepad.
  11. Start iTunes and try again.

How to fix iTunes error: "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. This device isn't eligable for the requested build."

I'm not sure if the 3GS was jailbroken or not. I'm thinking it was an unlock attempt that went awry and fried the chip, so it's quite possible that it was jailbroken previously. The -1 error didn't give me the this device isn't eligible for the requested build error, just that it was an error and nothing more. The Apple Store said it was a hardware error.

Hello!
Click the “Restore” button in the Summary section. Wait while iTunes completes the restore process.
