Update - the earthquake was a magnitude 4.6, 3 miles deep, varying info about its center. Not quite a 5, but it definitely got my attention. The earthquake occurred at 11:50 pm Tuesday, 10 minutes after episode 37 stopped. The scientists say “No connection.” No damage reported - in other words, “An average local shake.”A friend and I went to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park yesterday as episode 37 of the current eruption phase was imminent. It was about 60 degrees F when we got there at 7:30 am. Wind was brisk - judging by the way my pant legs were flapping, I’d guess 20 mph. It warmed up to a comfortable 70 degrees F and the wind slowed down to about 5 mph by the time we left at 1:30 pm - no fountaining.
Episode 37 started at 2:30 pm today (Tuesday) with fountains reaching 400 ft. Previous fountains have reached heights as high as 1300 feet! Last live TV coverage showed a considerable reduction of the fountain height but, we just had a “good” earthquake! About 5 on the Richter Scale by my estimate, which might indicate new activity …
