Totally Bricked?

Hi There. I am new to this so be gentle with me. I have an iphone 3gs (new bootrom) which I am trying to restore. I don't have any shs files stored and aparently the phone was running on ios 5.01. I have tried to restore via itunes and I get error 3194 for which I have tried modifying the 'host' file but still no joy also tried downgrading firmware to several different versions. I have tried a jailbreak with redsnow and greenpoison but nothing seems kick it back into life.Also tried restoring with tinyunbrella running but without shs files this doesn't work either. Is this phone going to be a paperweight for the rest of its life?

Hey thanks very much for the reply which does get me a little further although itunes is now throwing error 28 at me. Am I going to crack this one?

Naw, just shut your phone off for a couple and try again. Or as suggested by someone in the following discussion, pop out your sim car and put it back in. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2043928?start=0&tstart=0
