Happy Birthday iMac! Apple released the first iMac was on August 15 back in 1998. The iMac, which sold for $1,299 at launch featured a 233 - 700MHz PowerPC 750 G3 processor, 4GB of storage, a 15-inch CRT, a CD-ROM drive, and an ATI graphics card.
During the introduction, Jobs said "This is iMac. The whole thing is translucent. You can see into it. It's so cool"
You’re welcome.
I had quite a job getting Mac OS Tiger on it as it only has a CD-ROM drive and most copies of the Power PC version of Tiger are on a DVD rom. I found an unopened CD-ROM version on eBay. It comes on 4 discs, which, during installation, are inserted one after the other when prompted. Back then you could do a custom installation and could pick and choose which features to install. For example, you could decide you only needed the English language pack or didn't need the full font pack. Now it’s all or nothing when installing macOS.
