Text notification

Since the upgrade to iOS 11.whatever, I get intermittent notification of a new text. Most of the time I get no sounds when a new text arrives. I see the icon that I have a new text on the screen but no sounds. This is very annoying as sometimes the sender of the text needs my reply quickly. Any help appreciated. BTW does anyone else think Apple is going the way of Microsoft with their updates. New update and many patches to make it work correctly. BTW my iPhone is a 7

Have you looked in your notification center and made sure there is a sound assigned to the message alert? It's possible it got reverted to "none" when you did the upgrade. Just a thought. Also, try doing a hard reset by holding down the on/off button and when the power off screen comes on, hold down the home button at the same time until the apple logo appears. Then release both and wait for your phone to reboot, which can take a minute or two. Sometimes this can get rid of some minor bugs in your phone

Yes I have done all of those suggestions many times. Very annoying....
