You can set your phone to forward incoming calls to a different number. On GSM models (ATT&T) this is done in Settings>Phone>Call Forwarding. On CDMA phones (Verizon) you turn it on by dialing *72 followed by the number you want to forward calls to. To turn it off the code is *73. If you didn't turn on call forwarding then someone else did.

Dave.... a question, please: does the iPhone have to be powered up for the call forwarding to be active, or can a "turned off" phone do that too? This may sound dumb, but it's possible the carrier may be in control of the process after the forwarding is set up, no?

It's possible to forward phone calls from a power off phone to another phone, it's all in the call forwarding settings. But your carrier must first support that service before it can be done though.
