Signal Boosters?

Is there a way to improve on the signal strength? I use Verizon and I am, unfortunately, on the edge of their coverage area. I have been to Amazon and checked on all their solutions. They run from $16 to $500!! And I didn't understand how the expensive ones worked. I tried the "As seen on TV" super booster and it didn't do a thing.
Any help is appreciated.

I feel your pain - I have NO Verizon service in my house, yet I can walk out to the curb and have four bars. I spent $250 on a cellular booster from Verizon, and now it's flawless reception. However, don't think I'm pleased that I had to shell out that kind of money for something that my cellular provider should give me as part of my subscription to their shabby and unreliable service.
