i am really shocked and disappointed interms of the camera of iphone 4S. Although I do know that its an 8MP camera but when i look at the price vs quality comparison, I feel that the iphone 4S dont do justice with its price.

What do you people think about its camera?

* it is worth mentioning here that I am talking about the rear camera of the iphone.

To address the question as specifically asked, the iPhone's price is based on several factors. Storage being the largest contributor to the pricing structure. The next is the screen, CPU, GPU and software. The Camera is basically a "freebie". The reason for that is very simple. There are PHYSICAL limits to what you can do with a camera that uses a CCD and lens system this small. The cameras on cell phones will never replace a traditional camera using current technology.

It is amazing to me that people still believe a cell phone can ever be good enough for studio quality work. It's a pipe dream that will never happen.

Considering no one has received the 4s there is no way to compare it and I donot understand your point
A friend of mine received his 2days ago. He pre-ordered it one the same day the pre-order started but I'm not sure what provider/company gave him it early.

While I do not have the 4s, and I probably won't, I am very happy with the capabilities of the iphone camera. Anyone who thinks that it will have large camera quality is in for a let down as they should be. I have taken some very nice photos with my iphone and have really been happy with the quality. I love the fact that I dont have to lug my big camera around and can still get a descent shot if I need it. With the editing now built into the stock photo app it will be even better to use in the field if needed.
So far eveeything on the IOS5 has worked as advertised.

With you on the ip4 camera, I have to read very fine print on components and pcb's, I use my ip4 as a magnifying glass.

Well i think if you are buying a new iPhone and that too with the yearly deals and contract then I think there should be at least a 10 or higher MP camera so that it can stay up to date and be able to compete even after a year.

You know what? many people are considering only the current time and situation when they judge a phone. iPhone 4S should have an LTE(that will actually make it an Iphone"4")and a 10MP or higher camera at least so that I may not feel awkward when and if my friends show me some new samsung or other phone a year from today. I just mean to say that they shouldnt hold on to the technology for no reason.

We all know that if they want they could have place a 10Mp or higher camera but they deliberately didnt do it. Anyways lets see whats for us in coming time...

Firstly thats not the point. I know iphone had a 5MP camera last time and it worked well, in fact any phone with 5MP camera works well. But you should keep in mind that there used to be something NEW AND SPECIAL about iphones since the day one, and its the fact that they were ahead of all. Till the release of any new iphone the previous iphone model use to be on the top of the specifications in phones.

But this time I dont think they ll be able to survive this time because we all know that they have some really tough competition this time, be it from samsung or the android world. So in such a situation they should have gone a lil more advance in terms of technology.

lets see whats there for us in the future...

its not all about the amount of mega pixels it has because the iphone has better quality pictures then some phones or even cameras that have higher amount of mega pixels.. that was for sure the case with the iphone 3G 2mp camera and some of the nokias so called 5 mega pixel cameras.. I would of been happy if they left it at 5mp

I don't see the point most people whom by phones don't really care about how many megapixels it has and frankly unless you are going to blow up the image to print on A3 size or higher (tabloid ) it is fine what the iPhone 4s is about is a major advancement over the previous phone(s) now if that is not suitable for you then that's life either wait for the next generation or buy some other phone

That is true... Sony ericsson make their phones have loads of meda pixels.. 12 was the amount one of their phones had but when the quality is low it does not matter even it it was 100 mega pixels.. I like how apple increase the amount of data 8 - 16 - 32 and now 64GB models, that to me is more important then anything else. would love to see some 8mp 4S pics though.. I was impressed enough with the 5mp one.

I type this with all sincerity. Switch to Android now because the iPhone is not the right phone for you.

I could spend the next three hours typing up the technical reasons why your statement has zero validity.

Things like: CCD collection speed. Light exposure. Infrared diffuser/elimination. The benefits of 8MP over a 20MP CCD.

But I doubt that would sway your mind set of "Bigger must be better". So please, switch to Android as soon as possible. Because the phone manufactures for Android definitely cater to users with your types of demand.
