Safest method to JB?

What is the latest safest and easiest method to JB an iPhone 4? I am using the latest OS 4.2.1.

I mainly want to be able to close all the open apps at once.

There is only one way to jailbreak 4.2.1 by using redsnow. It's currently a tethered jailbreak but an untethered jailbreak is soon to be released...

Thanks. What is the advantage to untethered?

It means you can turn your phone off or reboot it without then having to plug it in to your computer to get it working again...
