In addition to devices like the iPod Touch 5th generation, the iPhone 5C is yet another Apple device which has not been updated in a few years. First released back in 2013, the A6-powered, polycarbonate-housed, "budget" iPhone 5C is due for an upgrade.

According to a note to investors, sent out by Jefferies analyst Ange Wu, the iPhone's plastic little brother may be seeing a big update later this year. The note claims that Apple will be dropping the plastic rear casing and replacing it with a unibody metal casing, along with other upgrades.

"The experience gained from iPhone 6/6 Plus rear metal casings will sustain FTC’s position as the main supplier for the iPhone 6S/6S Plus, and this will likely be extended to the iPhone 6C," reads the note.

The note goes on to say that the next iteration of the iPhone 5C will continue sporting the 4-inch screen to keep manufacturing costs low, as will as folks who enjoy the size of the device happy.

Reviews of the latest iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models' design have been mostly positive. While there was some controversy regarding things like bend-gate, and the arguably unappealing antenna lines on the rear. Recent rumors have claimed that we may see a more durable casing and removal of the antenna lines later this year.
