How to remove apps from iphone?

Tap hold the app you want to delete from your phone, all the apps on your home screen (springBoard) will start wiggling and you will see the red X on top left of each application. Tap on that X to delete the application you do not want to have on your device.

This doesn't seem to work any more. After pressing the x and the app disappearing, if you go into the update app section, there is now a sub section called 'purchases'. In there is a list of every app installed on the phone. It appears that it no longer removes them. Anyone know his to delete them totally or remove the app list from here?

Uhm that's Apple updating the App Store to use iCloud. It shows all your purchased apps so you can get anything you want back and so you know what you have purchased already. If it's there, it doesn't mean it's on the phone.
