Hey guys. I did some searching around, and reading some forums, and I am still a bit confused on something.

I came from android and blackberry, so bear with me since this is my first iPhone .

What exactly is SHSH? I see everyone talking about needing that to restore using the ios4 firmwares, and that it cannot be used for ios5 firmwares. So, what exactly is it? Is it related to the software keys apple uses to sign updates? I am very computer literate, so you don't need to dumb it down much, I'd just like to know what the big hype about SHSH is.

Thanks guys!

Signature HaSH blobs are what Apple uses to sign the validity of what iOS version is on your phone. The idea was for people to not be able to downgrade to lower versions if Apple wasn't signing the SHSH for that particular version. However, the genius' out there figured out a way to save SHSHs... thus being able to do what Apple was originally trying to prevent. With the release of iOS5 SHSHs can no longer be saved. So, downgrading to any iOS5+ version is impossible @ this point.
